Salaat (5 Time Daily Prayer)

Salaat - the complete connection of man and his Creator. It is an act that is in accordance with the movement of the universe, while its place is called "Mehrab" or "Battlefield" and its direction is towards the Kaaba or the House of Allah and people.

Salaat disconnects man from the material values, and directs one's intention, direction and action towards Allah the Creator. This is the condition of salaat.

Although salaat is an individual act, its expression is in the plural form as man is a part of others. For examples, "Thee do we worship," and "your aid we seek," or "Show us the straight way" (guide us in the path of stability).

The Morning Prayer (salaat UL-Fajr) starts with dawn or Fajr, which means explosion (of light into the darkness). By the movement of the earth and the sun, we rise up from sleep, after washing and cleaning ourselves, direct our faces and our intention towards the Kaaba or the unity of one law for all mankind, Kaaba, the house of Allah and the gathering of people as one family in that house under one common law. Our position is in "Mehrab" or battlefield that brings you to your reality in rejection of anything in order to achieve the presence of the creator. Mehrab is the place that self will be disregarded so that the Creator can be remembered. The battle against any deity to reach Allah's connection is (salaat). Islam starts with the rejection - La Ilaha Illallah- "No" to any other deity, to achieve the connection with Allah.

In salaat our action starts with the words of Allahu Akbar (God is Greater), that nothing could be higher than Him. Then we read the first chapter of the Quran that is called Opening. It is the opening of the Quran as a gateway to guidance. It is the opening chapter that opens the heart of man to the recognition of self and Creator, and it is an opening of the gateway of Heaven to those steadfast in salaat.

Our act of prostration to the Creator indicates that man is the servant of Allah alone and not the slave of anyone. The second prostration indicates that first man was created from dust and rose from it and again he shall become dust and rise again for the day of judgement.

We repeat our salaat again at the time that the sun and earth are in a close position of noon, and after noon, and again at Maghrib or when the earth is losing the sun or, as it is said incorrectly in English *sunset* the sun actually never rises nor sets, it is the earth that finds it and loses it as it is stated in the Quran-Mashregh, Magreb- rather than sunrise and sunset. And again salaat is made at night when the calm of darkness covers the earth.

Salaat constantly reminds one from performing any wrongdoing, and prevents the rejection of one's creator. Those who perform the true act of salaat see themselves as a part of this universe and obedient to Allah as their Sustainer.

Salaat is the direct connection of man and to his Creator. Our prophet gives the example of those that perform salaat as a "boiling spring in which man purifies himself five times a day". Man without salaat has no connection to the creator nor self-recognition.

In order to establish an Islamic Society, clean and just individuals are needed who establish salaat. Salaat has been mentioned in Quran 66 times and as many as 20 times with other pronouns.
